A Fast Summary of the PlayStation Showcase Event

The PlayStation Showcase unveiled brand new information, trailers, and gameplay for their upcoming videos games releasing for the PS4, PS5, and even PC. While some we were already aware of, some new ports and titles were truly surprising. PlayStation has clearly gone out of their way to bring us their best to create some excitement for the holiday season and 2022.

  • The original game came out about 20 years ago

  • Set over 4,000 years before the original trilogy

  • Rebuilt with new tech, features, visuals, and more

  • Maintains original story

  • The development team is comprised of industry veterans and some members from the original development team

Gran Turismo 7

"The objective for GT7 in current culture today, is to design a game to convey everything from the last 150 years of car and racing culture, whether you are a lifelong fan or discovering cars for the first time."

  • Harness magical abilities to battle monsters and matriarchs

  • Some known characters: Frey, her companion "Cuff", a powerful dictator named "Tanta Sila", "Johedy" who guides Frey on her journey, and a kind-hearted woman name "Auden" who accept Frey into Athia

  • Gary Schyman (who worked on BioShock) is composing the musical tracks

Deathloop

  • You wake up on the beach of Blackreef island filled with foes who want to kill you while being hunted by another assassin. If the day ends or you die, you wake up on the beach again

  • You must figure out how to break the time loop of death by finding and killing those who are responsible for its continuation

  • All while constantly being hunted yourself by an assassin who always seems to be one step ahead of you

Bloodhunt

  • A free-to-play, third-person, battle royale shooter

  • Stylized in the Vampire: The Masquerade universe

  • Supernatural powers, abilities, and weapons

  • Multiple vampire factions are all targeted by the "Entity" while they simultaneously fight each other

  • Factions: The Toreador (beautiful and contemporary humans), the Brujah (violent and angry rebels), and the Nosferatu (work in the shadows through spies and agents).

  • Each clan is represented by 2 vampire archetypes that possess unique abilities and powers

  • Scale buildings, defy gravity and play with a variety of playstyles

  • 60 fps target, 3D audio, and utilizes the PS5 Dualsense controller

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy

  • Takes place twelve years after the Galactic War

  • Guardians of the Galaxy have only been together for less than a year

  • Catastrophic events lead to a group known as the Universal Church of Truth to gain power and begin to threaten the universe

  • Cosmos, the head of security of Knowhere, is a powerful telepath who seeks to protect the people of Knowhere safe from the Universal Church of Truth. He is also a dog (presumably a good boy but unconfirmed by Eidos-Montreal)

  • Numerous other organizations and characters: Nova Corps, Worldmind, Mantis (Celestial Madonna), Kammy (space alpaca), and more

  • Star-Lord's elemental blasters transform and are tied to his DNA and unlock new elements as you progress through the story

GTAV and GTAV Online (coming to PS5)

  • Technical and graphical improvements

  • New standalone GTA Online will be available for free exclusively on PS5 for the first three months after launch

  • New and existing PS Plus members (with active PS Plus subscriptions) can get an additional bonus of $1,000,000 in GTA currency every month (per person) for the PS4 version until launch (claim at PS Store)

Alan Wake Remastered

  • The first Alan Wake game was released eleven years ago in 2010

  • The remake's enhanced graphics:

- PS5: 4K at 60 fps

- PS4 Pro: 4K at 30 fps

- PS4: 1080p at 30 fps

  • Utilizes the PS5 Dualsense controller

  • The protagonist was completely recreated visually

  • Improved graphics, audio effects, textures, props, UI, and more

  • To enhance the atmosphere of the gameplay, there was a dedicated team focused on making the trees and foliage look more beautiful

  • The stories of the Control and Alan Wake games are part of the same universe and each story apparently ties into the other in some way but it's unclear how this information will affect this Alan Wake remake

  • The world exists inside the mind of Tiny Tina which gave the game's creators a lot of creative freedom

  • The Dragon Lord threatens the Wonderlands and Tiny Tina is your guide to defeating your enemies

  • Tiny Tina may change the surrounding world as she pleases throughout the game

  • Many fantasy settings: towns, mushroom forests, fortresses, and more

  • Mankind is expelled from Earth after losing to the invaders known as the NA:tives

  • To win back Earth, you must play as Eve and defeat powerful enemies with your allies on a destroyed Earth

Tchia

  • Explore New Caledonia

  • Inspired by varied local landscapes, flora and fauna, cultures, music, languages, folklore and traditions, and more

  • All characters are voiced in traditional languages by local talent

  • Indigenous Kanak choirs and musicians were recorded for the game's soundtrack

  • Tchia has 'soul jumping powers' which allow one to take control of objects and animals in the world. This allows you to have unique abilities and control to solve puzzles, travel, and reveal secrets

  • Tchia's Ukelele is fully playable and can be used to trigger special events
